The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is considering constructing a Metrorail heavy restore and overhaul facility in Landover, Maryland, and is seeking public comments on the idea.
The facility could feature heavy restore and overhaul provider bays to accommodate up to 40 rail cars, car garage tracks to deal with up to 24 rail cars;
a traction strength substation, and operations and administrative offices. The proposed shop might offer additional rail-car preservation capacity and accommodate the increased demand for additional song preservation and associated systems, WMATA officials stated in a press release.
The facility could connect to the Orange Line between Landover and New Carrollton, Maryland. The 37-acre website includes numerous properties with light business activities.
WMATA is accepting feedback on the notion online or in person until March 28. The enterprise will also hold an open house on March 18 in Landover to review the project.
Public comments could be submitted to WMATA’s board in May. If the board approves the undertaking, belongings acquisition would be vital for the power, WMATA officials said.
